This walk takes you from the cottage/starting point and up our main track to our airstrip which is 550 metres above sea level. Here there are uninterrupted views of Mt Ruapehu, Mt Taranaki and ridges of farmland as far as the eye can see. You then walk beside native bush across a ridge line giving great views of two farming valleys, the mountains and then you make your way down to the yards at the back of the farm - which is the perfect stop for lunch! Heading back to the cottage you make your way back through the farm where you’ll see views of our farm, neighbouring properties, Mangawhero river and farm yards below. 13km return Route options - Full 13km walk, scenic loop, get dropped off by your hosts to get straight into the scenic loop views without the walk there! The easier of our two walks starts off from a private farm road (dropped off by your hosts). You are walking on established tracks, where you will have great views of our homestead, cottage, the local Primary school and the Mangawhero River. You will then steadily climb to the highest point on the farm – our airstrip which is 550 metres above sea level. Here you will have breathtaking views of Mr Ruapehu, Mt Taranaki and ridges and ridges of farmland for as far as the eye can see. Both Annemarie and Fraser grew up on farms and have travelled extensively. Fraser travelled the world sheep shearing and Annemarie wool classing, before they returned back to New Zealand to farm. Fraser and Annemarie have run the farm together since 1994 and latterly they have employed a full time experienced shepherd to assist Fraser. While Annemarie still helps out on the farm, she is also a rural and lifestyle real estate agent, sharing her passion of rural living with those looking to buy and sell. Annemarie and Fraser are experienced hosts having run Pakira Farmstay for over 15 years, with many regular clients returning for an annual stay at Pakira. Due to popular demand they have recently added Farm Walks to their experience and have stepped back from the Farmstay experience, instead offering a private cottage getaway for those looking for a relaxing break from the fast paced life.
